Course of Cartooning

Lesson 1

Day 1:  16 July

Face and expressions

The first thing you see on meeting any person, actor or character is his or her face. So let’s start with learning how to make a face and it’s expressions . Then with a few simple strokes ,how to change the total look of the face.

Here we have a happy face which gets happier ..happiest

An unhappy expression is changed to an angry one that gets more and more angry by changing the strokes on the eyes ,nose and mouth.

 Head and the different shapes

Any shape can make a great cartoon head. Lightly sketch the shape in pencil ,then  use this as a guide to build the head.

Compound head shapes

A compound shape is two shapes put together. Mix different head shapes to create a new cartoon character

Postures  with Stick figures

Posture adds to the expression because to every emotion there is  body language .We did postures by acting out the feelings .We pretended that a sixer at the cricket match was a catch out …or in the last few minutes the player hit a six and won the match…or Super man saves the life of a man in danger …the joy he feels after the feat.
